Continuing my ongoing observation of how small city governments can be just as dysfunctional as their larger counterparts.
Some people might think living in a small town of less than 15,000 people is quite idyllic. that it must be similar to the town of Mayberry in the fictional show The Andy Griffith Show. However, when you border the third and fourth largest cities in Michigan and the largest city in the state which is Detroit is a 12 to 15-mile drive to your south you would be mistaken to think it is anything ideal.
So I just to set up the background of this town and how it is perceived by some internally but have shown it has the amenities of major cities that surround it.
Including gas stations.
A nationwide company that is prevalent on the East Coast named Sheetz has announced plans to expand into Michigan and the small Hamlet known as Fraser has been picked to be one of the locations. ( The picture above is a faux example of what it won’t look like after the bank sitting for years abandoned gets knocked down) Credit Council Boi Perry.
In my opinion, most of the opposition that has arisen over a gas station being put up on a corner that happens to have two other gas stations opposite Sheetz’s proposed location is by those opposed to knocking down a building that has sat vacant for too long which has had others look at renovating it and because of its age for numerous reasons, people have decided not to take on the renovation. Of course, now people who have no money in this game want to make their feelings known and they are doing it in a feeling over-facts who feelings over-facts way.
I cover this in a brief podcast here and some of it will be added to my radio show on Sunday mornings on WAAM radio 1600 AM and 92.7 FM in Ann Arbor Michigan.
I'm also happy to announce that in addition to representatives from Sheetz coming to my town tomorrow from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fraser Lions Club to discuss the plans with the citizens of the community, I have been in hard negotiations with Councilman Perry who's one of the council people that will vote on this proposal, and he has agreed to go to Ohio and visit the nearest Sheetz and give it a look.
This is truly a fact-finding informative mission to find out exactly why this company has been so successful on the East Coast and wants to spend millions of dollars expanding into Michigan.
